Detailed CAT Exam Syllabus

The CAT exam consists of three main sections:

1. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)

This section tests your command over the English language and comprehension skills. It includes:

2. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)

  • Algebra (linear equations, quadratic equations & higher order equations, sequence & series, logarithms, inequality and modulus, functions & graphs, binomial theorem, special equation, surds & indices)
  • Geometry (circles, triangles, polygons, lines, angles, congruency and similarity of triangle, mensuration, co-ordinate geometry, quadrilateral)
  • Number system (factors, remainders theorems, base systems, recurring number of factors, product of factors, IGP, division LCM and HCF models, last digit and two digit)
  • Modern mathematics (probability, permutations & combinations, statistics, Set theory, trigonometry)

The exam duration is 120 minutes, with 40 minutes allotted per section. Each section is timed separately, and candidates must perform well across all sections to secure high percentiles.

CAT scores are calculated in two forms:
